Standing water in your yard isn't just an eyesore - it's a sign that something underneath isn't working right. Left alone, it can damage foundations, erode soil, and turn your lawn into a soggy mess after every rain. That's exactly what we were up against on this Shorewood property.

The scope of work here covered two separate problems: poor yard drainage and a boulder wall that needed repair. Both issues were contributing to water sitting where it shouldn't. We came in with a mini excavator, a compact track loader, and a solid plan to get water moving in the right direction.

For the drainage side, we dug out a trench system and lined it with filter fabric before laying perforated pipe and packing it in with river rock. That combination - fabric, pipe, and stone - is what makes a drainage system actually last. The fabric keeps fine soil particles from migrating into the system and clogging it up over time. It's a detail that separates a drainage fix that holds up from one that fails in a couple seasons.

Working on a property like this takes care. There are mature trees, landscaping, and tight spaces that a full-size machine can't get into without causing damage. That's why we run compact equipment on jobs like this - it lets us do precise excavation work without tearing up everything around it.

Getting drainage right the first time means the property is protected not just today, but after every heavy rainfall going forward. Solid grading and excavating work paired with a properly built yard drainage system is what gives a property long-term stability.
